20130928 Worship

Unpacking my sketchnote
Wesley Methodist Church Singapore
2013 Sept 29
sermon: Worship
dr Leow Theng Kiat
text Is 6:1-7

Isaiah is brought into the presence of God
He sees God on throne
high above
His robe fills the temple
Seraphim fly about
Modestly covering their feet
covering their eyes lest they gaze upon God
They call out Holy Holy  Holy .

The prophet knows he (a sinner) is doomed for he has seen God
But God in His mercy cleanses Isaiah, removes his guilt, blots out his sin

2 Main points
1) God is Holy, we cannot approach Him
2) Jesus, son of God, approaches God freely
and allows us to approach  God.

God is Holy,
separate from us
so high above
we can not reach him

Separate by moral purity and righteousness
God is light
in him is no darkness at all.

We should worship God because he is holy
yet because of our sin we can not approach God
Our sin separates us from God
By our own power and strength we can not approach God.

Jesus solves this deadly paradox.

2) Jesus, son of God, approaches God freely
and allows us to approach  God.

Jesus was God
but allowed himself to be born human
He lived on earth
He was killed on the cross
a sacrifice to atone our sins
Jesus conquored sin and death
the third day he rose from the tomb

Jesus includes us as His body
Jesus brings us into God's presence

Our worship should honour God in fear and reverence for His holiness

Our worship of God should express our deed deep gratitude for what He has given us.

Worship and prayer should never be in attempt to manipulate God.

God is love
He has given us all we need.
